About the Opportunity

Dawson Wallace currently has an opportunity for an enthusiastic Journeyperson Carpenter to join our team in Surrey, British Columbia.

As a Carpenter, you will report directly to the Project Superintendent and General Foreman. You will be relied upon to facilitate and perform all duties requested by the acting Site Superintendent or designated foreman. You will be expected to work accurately and economically and must perform and execute all tasks in compliance to local and national code regulations. Skillset and training may vary between workers however, it is expected that as a Carpenter, you will train and mentor less experienced workers as needed.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:  

  • Read and interpret drawings/blueprints and/or take instructions from site superintendent
  • Perform layout including material selection, planning sequences and methods of work, and measuring and marking materials to avoid costly mistakes or omissions
  • Cutting and shaping materials and fastening them as required
  • Complete all tasks ensuring they are level, square, plumb and the right size, shape and location
  • Perform site clean-up including sweeping, de-watering, and general housekeeping
  • Perform each task safely and follow all applicable legislation and Dawson Wallace Construction Ltd. safety policies
  • Build concrete forms, place and finish concrete as required
  • Erect basic scaffolding and hoarding systems
  • Work at heights using various fall protection methods ensuring to comply with all applicable legislation
  • Operate various mobile equipment including aerial work platforms, telehandlers, skid steer
  • Lift and manage heavy workloads safely
  • Assist tradespersons as needed

 

This position requires a combination of sitting, walking, and standing, bending and kneeling for long periods of time. 

 

More About You 

In order to qualify for this role, you will need at least 3 years of direct experience as a Journeyperson Carpenter in the commercial and industrial construction industry. This experience in combination with a Red Seal ticket are required.

The Requirements:

  • Previous experience in commercial construction is required
  • Industry related trade certification /education. Preference will be given to ticketed Carpenters (Red Seal)
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Steel toed boots are required
  • CSTS, WHMIS, Fall Protection required
  • Worksite environment is outdoors
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have valid Fall Protection training and First aid
  • Must have own hand tools. Power tools to be supplied by the Company.
